KeySight IXIA Hardware Network Administrator — Job Description

Summary
Experienced Network Administrator responsible for day-to-day operation, maintenance, and availability of network infrastructure and Keysight Ixia visibility and test assets in lab and production environments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and physical cabling for copper and fiber links.
  • Operate and support Keysight Ixia visibility hardware (NPBs such as Vision 400 and E10s modules, copper and fiber taps, port aggregators) to ensure monitoring and security tool coverage.
  • Support test-lab operations: power on/off and rack equipment, install modules into chassis (XGS2, XGS12, AresONE), perform firmware and software updates, and coordinate vendor support and RMAs.
  • Configure and monitor inline devices, bypass switches, and port aggregators to preserve network availability during maintenance and testing.
  • Maintain inventory, labeling, rack diagrams, cable maps, and configuration backups; enforce change-control and safety procedures.
  • Capture and deliver packet traces and basic analysis to engineering teams; escalate complex issues to Test Lab Engineers or Network Engineers.
  • Execute scheduled maintenance windows and coordinate with stakeholders for minimal service impact.
  • Document procedures, update runbooks, and provide on-call support as required.
    Required qualifications

Required qualifications
– 3+ years’ experience administering enterprise networks or lab environments.
– Familiarity with Ethernet connectivity (10GE and higher), copper and fiber physical layers, and packet-capture basics.
– Hands-on experience with network visibility tools (NPBs, taps, port aggregators) or willingness to learn Keysight Ixia products.
– Strong troubleshooting skills across physical and link layers and practical experience with rack-mounted hardware and cable management.
– Comfortable performing firmware/OS upgrades and following vendor support workflows.

Preferred skills and certifications

– Prior exposure to Keysight Ixia test and visibility platforms (BreakingPoint, ixVeriwave, WaveTest) or equivalent vendor products.
– Networking certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or vendor-specific training.
– Basic scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Bash) to automate routine tasks.
– Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or performing similar tasks in support of another federal or state agency.
