KeySight IXIA Hardware Network Engineer — Job Description
Summary
Experienced network test engineer responsible for deploying, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Keysight Ixia test and visibility hardware to support lab and production validation, performance benchmarking, and security testing.
Key responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure, and maintain Keysight Ixia test chassis and modules (examples: XGS2, XGS12, AresONE 800GE-M, WaveBlades) for protocol, performance, and functional testing.
- Operate and validate network visibility appliances including network packet brokers (e.g., Vision 400, E10s modules), copper and fiber taps, and port aggregators.
- Build, run, and document test plans and traffic profiles using Ixia test platforms for Layer 2–7, mobile, Wi‑Fi, IoT, and security scenarios (e.g., BreakingPoint).
- Perform hardware upgrades, module installations, firmware/IOS updates, and routine preventative maintenance; coordinate with vendors for advanced support and RMA processes.
- Troubleshoot complex test setups and visibility chains; capture and analyze packet data to isolate issues and verify device/system behavior.
- Integrate test and visibility outputs with monitoring and security toolchains; manage bypass switch and inline device configurations to preserve network availability during testing.
- Maintain lab inventory, rack/cable documentation, and configuration backups; enforce change-control and safety procedures in the test environment.
- Produce clear, executive-ready reports summarizing test results, performance baselines, and recommended remediation steps.
Required qualifications
– 4+ years’ hands-on experience with network test or visibility hardware, lab operations, or network engineering.
– Practical experience with Keysight Ixia hardware and software ecosystems (chassis, test modules, packet brokers, taps) or equivalent vendor platforms.
– Strong understanding of Ethernet (10GE–800GE+), full-duplex copper and fiber connectivity, and packet capture/analysis techniques.
– Proficiency with test methodologies for performance, functional, and security validation.
– Solid troubleshooting skills across physical, link, and transport layers; ability to read and produce wiring/rack diagrams and lab documentation.
– Familiarity with firmware/OS upgrades, module hot-swap procedures, and vendor support workflows.
Preferred skills and certifications
– Experience with BreakingPoint, ixVeriwave, WaveTest platforms, or similar test suites.
– Certifications: CCNP/CCNA, JNCIS, or vendor-specific Keysight training/certification.
– Scripting ability (Python, TCL, or similar) for automating test runs and result parsing.
– Prior lab or test-facility role in service provider, OEM, or large enterprise environments.
– Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or performing similar tasks in support of another federal or state agency.
