    Keysight IXIA Hardware Test Lab Engineer Technician — Job Description

    Summary
    Hands-on Test Lab Engineer/Technician responsible for executing, maintaining, and supporting Keysight Ixia network test and visibility infrastructure to validate device functionality, performance, and security across lab and staging environments.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Deploy, configure, and operate Keysight Ixia test platforms and modules (examples: XGS2, XGS12, AresONE 800GE-M, WaveBlades) to run protocol, performance, mobile, Wi‑Fi, IoT, and Layer 2–7 test scenarios.
    • Assemble and maintain visibility chains using network packet brokers (e.g., Vision 400, E10s modules), copper and fiber taps, port aggregators (TPA2-CU3, Copper Port Aggregator), and bypass switches.
    • Build, execute, and document test cases and traffic profiles; capture and deliver packet traces and logs for engineering and security teams.
    • Perform hardware installations, module swaps, firmware and software updates, preventive maintenance, and coordinate RMAs and vendor support for Keysight equipment.
    • Troubleshoot test setups and visibility issues across physical, link, and transport layers; isolate failures and verify fixes with reproducible test runs.
    • Maintain lab inventory, rack and cable diagrams, configuration backups, and change-control records; enforce safety and handling procedures for fiber and copper interfaces.
    • Support scheduled maintenance windows and test campaigns; provide on-call or flexible-hours support as needed.
    • Produce clear test reports and concise operational notes for stakeholders; escalate complex technical problems to senior engineers.

    Required qualifications
    – 2–4 years’ hands-on experience in a network test lab, hardware test facility, or similar operational engineering role.
    – Practical experience with rack-mounted network hardware, fiber and copper cabling, and packet capture techniques.
    – Familiarity with network visibility concepts (NPBs, taps, aggregation) and test equipment workflows.
    – Strong troubleshooting skills across physical and link layers, including ability to read rack/cable diagrams and follow SOPs for module installation and firmware updates.
    – Comfortable working on-site with physical handling of chassis, modules, and optical connectors.

    Preferred skills and certifications

    – Direct exposure to Keysight Ixia platforms (BreakingPoint, ixVeriwave/WaveTest, AresONE) or equivalent network test suites.
    – Networking certifications such as CCNA or CompTIA Network+.
    – Basic scripting for test automation or result parsing (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
    – Experience integrating visibility outputs with monitoring or security toolchains.
    – Experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs or performing similar tasks in support of another federal agency.
